Decorative Oar Painting with June & Michael Shatken

Transform a simple wooden oar into a one-of -a kind work of coastal art.  In this fun, hands-on workshop, you’ll paint and personalize a wooden oar using colors, patterns, stencils and your own creative ideas.


Whether your style is classic nautical or bright and whimsical, you’ll leave with a unique piece that can be displayed in your home, porch or beach cottage. 
No painting experience necessary - just come with your enthusiasm!

  • Michael Shatken is a seasoned sailor and architect.  He also enjoys reclaiming and restoring discarded objects and furniture, many of which he’s found in the Shelter Island ‘goodie pile.’
    Michael has been instrumental in the founding of SIAC, and continues to guide and support the organization’s growth.
